Pants on Fire

Lying is a particular talent of mine,
fine-honed and polished with use.
My sponsor knows when I hedge the truth.
If an answer is generalized, minimized,
or “fine” or “okay” she quickly dredges out the truth.
What happens, though, when I involve another
in my deception? For most fabrications
I craft are individualized and others know.
Still, it’s a defect of character
falling in the category of “every single
defect of character which stands in the way
of my usefulness to You and my fellows.”
God, I see the issue and haven’t managed
to lose the habit on my own, so help me
to speak the truth when I mumble the words
and honestly be entirely ready
to let you remove the lousy habit!
