We quote Ecclesiastes – “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven,” “there is no new thing under the sun,” “cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days,” “he hath made everything beautiful in his time.”

We quote it, but who reads Ecclesiastes? What does it say for us here, now? How can we reconcile the Twenty-first Century with a century ended before the counting began?

Barbara B. Rollins, like The Teacher, looks back on decades of life. Her path traces the search for happiness and meaning through titles of teacher, Christian educator, secretary, lawyer, judge, writer, Sunday school teacher, Rotarian, Toastmaster, genealogist, historian, editor, and publisher. Her sons married, leaving parents at home surrounded by memories and dogs. Cosmic debates rampage through Barbara’s mind, having led her to graduate degrees in Christian Education and in Law. A student of the history of Twelve-Step programs, she draws understanding from eclectic literature and from correspondents around the world.

A Time for Verse juxtaposes immortality and trivia, meditation and irreverence, scripture and show tunes. A Time for Verse is what it is.
