I Chose to Choose Joy

Paul chose contentment
when imprisoned.
A man named Walter
chose to rise from pain
and treasure life.
One named Yehuda
chose words of encouragement.
William James propounded
battling stress choosing
one thought over another.
Groucho Marx proclaimed,
I, not events, have the power
to make me happy or unhappy today.
Sometimes joy eludes me,
making it difficult to choose it.
But when that happens
still there is hope. For I always
have the opportunity, the ability,
to choose to choose joy.
