Nine Tools

We could want our lives
to function like a well-oiled machine
working consistently, automatically,
but we’re not guaranteed that,
just that if we surrender our will,
yield to a power greater than we,
and see to the next right thing
this day and only this day
one day at a time
we can have what we long to have.
We don’t have a machine
yet we do have tools
and using them can give us rhythm,
regularity, predictability like machines.
We telephone, go to meetings,
do service, have a plan of action,
a food plan, a sponsor and sponsorees,
read literature, write, give service
and respect others enough to honor
anonymity, and the gears fall into place.
