I’ve blamed the world,
my family, my friends,
my enemies, strangers…
anyone but me all these years.
Resentment, hatred, fear —
their fault.
Then that fearsome column,
the key to the future,
putting out of our minds
the wrongs others had done,
we resolutely looked
for our own mistakes.
Fearsome. Awful.
Awe-full.
