Jesus loves me, this I know…
but do I? I expect God’s guidance,
when I get around to asking for it,
but who am I to bother him
with less than life-threatening,
momentous things? Do I treat him
like I did those folks I used to describe
“They think I’m their friend.”
Do I doubt my ability
to merit human friendship
much less divine? It’s a stupid attitude,
a self-centered position.
It’s easy enough a child can understand,
“Jesus loves me, this I know.”
