Who’s in Charge?

On arising, we think of the day,
the calendar, the challenges, the hopes.
We leave behind self-pity,
ulterior motives, temptation to hide
in lies, in fear, in procrastination.
Thankful to face a day of recovery,
the addiction and insanity
no longer compelling, controlling,
we relinquish control, glad
to affirm we’re not god.
We’re merely reporting for duty.
