The New Power Pours In

As we felt new power flow in, as we enjoyed peace of mind, as we discovered we could face life successfully, as we became conscious of His presence, we began to lose our fear of today, tomorrow or the hereafter. We were reborn. (Alcoholics Anonymous, page 64)

First, we quit playing God.
Well, do we first need to know we are?
Probably not. I’ve never found my analytical
proffer meant leading with the strongest card.
So when I’m slipped or shoved out of the way,
when I give up or dare another to prove me wrong,
when somehow God for an instant, a moment
gets hold of the controls without my jerking them away,
then the power flows in. Flow. Move continuously,
a current or stream. Flow is not dribble, not drip,
ooze or seep, but course, stream, swirl, surge.
And that tide brings peace of mind,
consciousness of His presence.
But the flood-tide? the payoff? we lose our fear
of today, of tomorrow, of forever. We’re newborn,
fresh, starting over, getting it right this time.
What power is that!
