We consider giving up peace
because the stronger urge we have
is to hold on to vengeance,
a proper…in our mind…
need to be fulfilled.
We want to repay insult with scorn,
Suggestions to work for agreement
With scorn earned by the treatment we resent.
What benefit is vengeance?
Why would we choose to insist on the last word?
Because it’s right!  Mother and Daddy said so,
And so did the Bible and the preacher!

God of peace and justice,
help us give up the need for vengeance,
