Every person has a truth, rooted in their perceptions, experiences, and hopes. It is only when, equipped by grace, we listen to one another that our truths can be reconciled in love and become a new story of hope and restoration. ~ Room, The Upper. The Upper Room Disciplines 2022: A Book of Daily Devotions (p. 151). Upper Room Books. Kindle Edition.
What’s my truth?
Is it what I admit, the actions
that feel righteous,
or must it include those things done in secret
I’d prefer not even God know?
I truly believe my perceptions,
experiences, and hopes
could be expurgated,
redressed, bowdlerized, sanitized.
But honestly, I plead,
Create in me a pure heart,
and as the Psalmist said,
O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Let the truth be reconciled in love
and become in me a new story
of hope and restoration.
Amen!
