Who’s Driving?

No one can drive you crazy unless you accept the passenger’s seat. ~ Cohen, Alan. A Course in Miracles Made Easy (p. 31). Hay House. Kindle Edition.

Maybe we got confused
by the popular statement,
“If God Is Your Co-Pilot, Switch Seats.”
Of course,  that’s wise advice.
But how many of us surrender control
of our lives to the codependent
in our lives? Even if that codependent
is us! Codependency is a disorder
of a “lost self.” Codependents
have lost their connection
to their innate self.
Instead, their thinking and behavior
revolve around a person,
a substance, or a process.
Are you codependent?
Are you surrendering the drivers seat
to please someone else?
I remember a time years ago
when I gained enough confidence
to control the wheel as I sat there,
no longer frightened my passenger
would object no matter what I did.
We actually had a trip where I drove
ninety miles without the fear
and therefore without the stupid moves
I had been making during the time
I had to hold the wheel
for medical reasons.
No one can drive you crazy
unless you accept the passenger’s seat.
