Forget the dogs, even the husband!
I don’t normally drink coffee,
but Oh!, how I wishI could teach ME
to get out of bed earlier, not by hours,
but enough to establish a practice to pause
before feeding the dogs, preparing coffee
for the husband then proceeding
with oughts and shoulds and expectations
so I find myself at the end of the day
writing tomorrow’s poem, knowing
when I finish I’ve done it again,
and still lack a time of prayer
and meditation.
