Go Boldly

Boldness is the opposite of passivity. To be bold means to choose our destination, to set our own course, and to be brave enough to correct that course if we decide it’s not taking us where we want to go. To be bold is to act—not with ruthless aggression—but with determined energy. It is to reach out and move toward what we are seeking rather than waiting for it to magically materialize. ~ Larsen, Earnie. Days of Healing, Days of Joy: Daily Meditations for Adult Children (Hazelden Meditations) . Hazelden Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Do you hesitate to go boldly? I do.
I tend to tread lightly,
to imagine a YIELD sign facing me.
I live a life of “Mother, May I?”
Why would I choose my destination,
set my own course,
then be brave enough to correct that course?
I think back a decade to a time
I acted with determined energy,
to claiming my right to decide
rather than yielding the right.
I was recently told,
“when my sweet-natured and
sweet-tempered friends
share stories like yours,
I always tell them they need
to get a whole lot bitchier.”
Maybe it IS time for me
to act with determined energy!
