avoiding anything
tasting luscious,
driving past a donut shop,
wondering if the tiny lady
working the drive-through
would still know me,
remember my order…
We can describe abstinence
in terms of deprivation,
restriction, missing the good stuff.
Truth be told, that’s a lie
but if we persist in negativity
a relapse is just around the bend.
