Learning Humility

Part of learning humility is learning to contribute to my own well-being. Today I will do something loving for myself that I’d normally do for someone else. ~ Family Groups, Al-Anon. Courage to Change—One Day at a Time in Al‑Anon II. Al-Anon Family Groups. Kindle Edition.

Treating myself as I would treat my neighbor?
Isn’t that backwards? The ashes rule
rather than the Golden one?
The “do unto others as you
would have them do unto you”?
Is it wrong to treat ourselves that well?
I’m a people-pleaser, I look out for others.
not for myself…at least not naturally,
not automatically. The writer said,
“true humility is not degrading;
it doesn’t require that I neglect my own needs.
Humility, it says, “is not measured
by how much I do for other people,
but by my willingness to do my part
in my relationship with
the God of my understanding.
God teach me to accept your guidance!
