Giving Away the Treasure

Joy at our release from a lifetime of frustration knew no bounds. Father feels he has struck something better than gold. For a time he may try to hug the new treasure to himself. He may not see at once that he has barely scratched a limitless lode which will pay dividends only if he mines it for the rest of his life and insists on giving away the entire product. ~ World Service, Alcoholics Anonymous. The Big Book and A Study Guide of the 12 Steps. Anonymous Publishing. Kindle Edition.

What do we do with our treasure?
Recovery of body and soul which we find
in the rooms is the greatest possession possible.
Who would not hug it to himself?
Who would believe that might not be the ideal?
Truth be told, it’s not. We keep this treasure one way only…
we have to give it away. For giving it away,
amazing, yields more in our possession,
in our cache, our storehouse, which incredibly
expands as we share it. To keep the treasure
we are compelled to share it
with all who will accept it,
to offer it to all we meet.
Mine the trove for the rest of your life
and give away freely to all you encounter.
