Who I Want to Be

“Lord, when we are wrong, make us willing to change. And when we are right, make us easy to live with.” ~ Peter Marshall, Sandpaper People

Lord, I want to be a Christian in my heart.
I knew a woman who sang the hymn
“Are You Able” with her own words.
Instead of “Lord, we are able.
Our spirits are Thine,” she sang
with a powerful voice,
“Lord, make us able.
Our spirits are Thine.”
She caught the essence
of the Disciples’ following.
And I agree with her, my prayer
“Lord, make me able.
My spirit is Yours.”
And Peter Marshall was right as well.
“And when I am right,
make me easy to live with!”
