In Recovery they say, “There are none too dumb
for the 12 step program – but many are too smart.”
and that, “The smartest thing an AA member can say
is, ‘help me.'” Someone, in reading the chapter
“To the Agnostic” in the Big Book put thought together
to create the “Set Aside Prayer” along these lines:
“Dear God please help me to set aside
everything I think I know about [fill in the blank]
so I may have an open mind and a new experience.
Please help me to see the truth about [fill in the blank]
AMEN.” Now all I need is not to believe the simple words
too dumb but instead to be smart enough to pray it
as often as needed.
