Becoming Capable

“Getting out of my own way gives me the freedom to rise to the highest level of which I am capable.” — For Today, p. 280

“I can do this by myself!”
One of our oldest and most durable illusions.
I tried, hard, for fifty years and it was absolute truth
when I reached the rooms of recovery, I
“admitted I was powerless over food —
that my life had become unmanageable.”
That Step followed by the other eleven
finally taught me to give up. I learned to pray
in all situations, “God, I offer myself to Thee—
to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.
Relieve me of the bondage of self,
that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties,
that victory over them
may bear witness to those I would help
of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life.
May I do Thy will always!” And I became capable
by surrendering.
