I am powerless over food
and my life has become unmanageable.
That’s true! Always has been, for me,
and always will be! But I can’t give up
on program, on me, on life, on recovery!
I get part of my power back each day
one day at a time, as I work my program.
When I stuff things in my mouth
it’s a conscious decision!
Maybe not the opening of mouth,
the bingeing, the avoidance, the agony…
but I consciously stopped doing program.
Maybe I was conscious of just not having time,
of skipping reading or calling my sponsor
or prayer and meditation, of tenth steps,
eleventh, of remembering to be willing to be willing.
I was conscious at one point and at that point
I gave it away, refused the gift…
of abstinence and recovery.
