Shame. A painful feeling of humiliation
or distress caused by the consciousness
of wrong or foolish behavior. Would that I
could lose shame, banish it, be rid of it.
But that’s not the plan. It has a place.
Like bumble bees or rattlesnakes or mold.
Like Daddy said, “Don’t be sorry, don’t do it!”
God uses our contrition, embarrassment,
humiliation, regret to show us what path
we don’t choose to repeat. Shame.
A way for God to guide us towards the place
we wanted to find and on our own
could not.
