Thy

In his prayers he says, “Thy will be done”; but means his own, at least acts so. ~ William Penn

Thy. Archaic your. Thy will be done.
We constantly remind ourselves
we are no longer running the show,
humbly saying to ourselves
many times each day, “Thy will be done.”
We know that’s how to do it.
We’ve heard it all our lives…
even in the archaic, always, well usually,
as though it’s not really real.
Maybe, though, we say it that way
not because it’s traditional,
not because that’s how we grew up
but because it doesn’t feel so real,
so much of a commitment,
so second person, meaning
not the one talking
but the other, the Capitalized Other,
the THY.
