Making Debts, Paying Debts

Death’s the discharge of our debt of sorrow.
Seneca

A small debt produces a debtor; a large one, an enemy.
Publilius Syrus
An amend unmade
weighs like debt unpaid,
nibbles on capital
dribbling coins of fear
A day of recovery
yields tender to repay
debts of mercy received
sitting in the rooms
devoid of hope,
of emotion,
of a future.
A smile bestowed on
helpless newcomer
ameliorates debt
of the former newcomer,
seeding recovery.
